50 classics challenge - week 4: my choice

For this challenge I did something a little different.  I did design an outfit of my choice from the list provided above, but I also remixed that outfit!  This week, is an outfit I might wear to work on causal Friday, or wear to the grocery store or to do some reading in Barnes and Nobles (r.i.p. Borders ;( )

A simple outfit of jeans, a long sleeved tee and flats.  Pre-bloggin, I probably would've stopped there, but the new me also threw on a scarf and a ring for some visual interest! I would also probably throw on my leather jacket or black tulip skirt trench.

Now the remix.  This is something that I would wear if *he* called and wanted to go to dinner in a hurry, or if I was going to go have drinks with friends.

Jeans, a long sleeved tee, black pumps, a ring, a pearl necklace, a leather handbag, and a silk scarf tied around the handbag.  This is another instance where I would probably choose different accessories if I wasn't bound by the list.  A lot of bloggers have been posting about details lately and I've been wondering if that was a part of the je ne se qua that I feel like I'm missing.

Well that's all from me! Don't forget to head over to Petite JD to see her final outfit.  This was an interesting challenge, and I can't wait until the next one!

50 classics challenge - week 3: date night

Here's my interpretation of the week 3 challenge: date night!  Our "date nights" usually include a nice dinner somewhere.  So here is something that I may wear when spending quality time out with my sweetie!

In fact, after seeing these pictures, I may wear this next weekend :D  Black dress, black pumps, evening clutch in leopard for a little sauciness, and a few accessories (yes, I did include lacy undergarments *wink wink*).  When I took these pictures I thought "pearl bracelets" were on the list of baubles, but now I see that they aren't :(.  If I weren't restricted to this list, I would probably accessorize a little differently than I did for this post.

Just for fun, here's a run down of a date night FOTD:
Face:
Laura Mercier Oil Free Foundation Primer
Makeup Forever High Definition Foundation
Estee Lauder Double Wear Powder
MAC Select Cover Up
MAC Blot Powder
Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder (Deep)
MAC Love Thing Blush

Eye:
MAC Select Cover Up or Urban Decay Primer Potion
MAC Soft Brown
MAC Bronze
Cheap Black Pencil Eyeliner
MAC Black Liquid Eyeliner
Cover Girl Mascara

Lip:
Maybelline Nude Lipliner
MAC Speak Louder Lipstick

What can I say? I'm a natural beauty :)

Don't forget to head over to Petite JD to see what she came up with!  See you for the last week of the challenge...my choice!

50 classics challenge - week 2: wear to work

I have to admit, that this week's outfit is a little boring.  Apparently, I don't currently have a closet full of classics, and you'll see exhibit A of that below:

This week, I chose a wool pencil skirt, cotton oxford, black pumps, and various accessories: pearl necklace and earings, watch.

Boring right?  And not at all representative of what I'd actually wear to work!  I actually tried to spruce the outfit up a bit by adding a leopard print silk scarf, but that would only work if paired with a blazer or some other outerwear.

Confession #1: My skirt isn't actually wool!  This may be the first time I've lived in a place with a cold enough winter to justify a wool pencil skirt!
Confession #2: My shirt isn't exactly a classic oxford print.  In my defense, I quick Google search leads me to believe that any type of button down dress shirt could loosely qualify! I took the liberty of making my shirt fit into that category.
Confession #3: As much as I love my shoes, I would probably never wear them to work!  My workplace just isn't the kind of joint where you wear 5" pumps.

Although the bright spot in this post is the shirt!  This is one of the BR shirts that I got on super duper sale and posted about here.  I wore the blue one last weekend and threw it in the dryer when I washed clothes.  I can confirm that they do in fact SHRINK!  But I've never actually worn this one (yeah, I threw this stuff on to take pictures...sue me!), and I found that wearing another shirt under it (for example a long sleeved baby tee) actually makes it presentable.  I don't like appearing as if I'm swimming in my clothing, and I think that takes away from a professional appearance.

That's all from me!  Run over to Petite JD and see what some of the other challengers have come up with this week.

50 classics challenge - week 1: casual daytime outfit

I'm late, I know I know!  I attended a work conference late last week AND went out of town, so I didn't have time to post.  Of course I left packing until the very last minute.  I had to finish up some work stuff.  I had to clean my house prior to departure.  I had a lot to do.

So without further ado.  My friend over at Petite JD has started a challenge for the month of October, inspired by this wonderful checklist:

I've decided that I want to redo my wardrobe and my look but didn't know where to start...until I saw this checklist.

My Casual Daytime Outfit:

My first instinct was to wear my dark rinse skinnies, but I decided to do something a little different with these Gap jeans.  I've also owned these boots for a few years now and NEVER worn them.  I guess I've felt kind of intimidated by them all this time...not any more!  I'm really having trouble finding "winter" shoes, but found these in the back of my closet.  Problem (partially) solved.

I would actually finish this outfit with my black trench with a tulip skirt (love...in person), but it just doesn't photograph well when taking self photos :(  Instead, my Ann Taylor trench.  If only I had known about petite sizing then!

Hopefully when this coat makes an appearance next spring it will have made a visit to the tailor!
