weariang now: stopping in
Just a quick outfit of the day from a couple of weeks ago. Have a lot going on right now. I should be back to blogging regularly in the next couple of weeks. I know I need to write an update to my Red Carpet Manicure Experience.

wearing now: not skinny
I usually wear skinny jeans so these are a nice change of pace from the usual! They are also easier to layer tights under on those cold winter days.
I added a black blazer because you never know what the temp will be in my office.

wearing now: uniform
This has totally been my uniform of late. Nothing special. One or two layers of shirt, a blazer or a cardigan, jeans or slacks, accessories. It's working for me now, and I haven't felt inspired to stray just yet!
Ironically, a few other people in my office were also wearing animal print! Great minds..great minds!

weariang now: all black everything
Well, not exactly all black, but I have been doing more experimenting with monochromatic looks lately.
A few years ago, I wouldn't be caught *dead* in an outfit that was all one color. If it didn't match perfectly, there was no way I was going to be seen outside of the house like that! No.way. I do feel kind of good about this outfit though.
Want to know a little secret?

wearing now: holiday nails
I'm on the hunt for my "holiday nail." One of my friends laughed about me looking for holiday nail polish. I thought EVERYONE did it! Instead of purchasing a new color, I think I've settled on adding something sparkly to my nails this holiday season. I checked out Ulta to see what they sparkly goodies that had in stock. There were a ton of options! I think every major brand has a sparkle, glitter or flaky polish out now.
Read on to see what I got!

wearing now: date night
We recently celebrated *his* birthday, and I took him out to dinner. It was an unseasonably warm evening and I was loving every minute of it! Clearly, I'm not the best blogger because I didn't think of taking action or location shots, but here is what I wore.

wearing now: you can say i'm plain jane
Today's OOTD is is brought to you by the fact that pictures show you way more about an outfit than a mirror ever could! I think Cher was on to something with her Polaroids!

wearing now: because i want to my dear
Recently went to the mall with *him* to do a little returning and shopping for him and this was my chosen outfit. When he saw me, his first question was, "Why are you wearing something sheer?" Because I want to my dear...because I want to! And the sensible side of me kicked in and reminded him that I *did* have a coat!

wearing now: daylight savings time
Daylight savings time is really doing a number on me. Maybe I've written about this before???? But I've been waking up at 4:30 every morning since the time change! Of course, this means by 8:30 I am ready to crash and burn! Not only is my sleep messed up, but I'm also dying to eat dinner at 5:30...ugh. So annoying. First world problems.
Today was a meeting day at work, so I did dress up a little more than I have been since the weather turned cooler.

wearing now: indian summer
I am thrilled with the Indian Summer that has roared through here the last couple of days. The last couple of weeks have been a nasty combination of wet and cold and it really affected my mood! These 60 degree days are a wonderful mood booster!
I am really trying my darndest to transition into winter :( I'm kind of struggling to find nice, warm sweaters that *fit*. I picked one up from Benetton a couple of weekends ago and hope to have a review up within the next week or so.

wearing now: trying to embrace fall
Fall is coming...and I'm not prepared. I know I posted a few fall favorites a couple of weeks ago, but I'm still not sure what I'm going to be wearing! I did do a little shopping while I was at home a couple of weekends ago, so I do have a few new pieces that I'm excited about. In the meantime, this has pretty much become my uniform. Jeans or slacks, a shirt, a blazer or cardigan and some kind of accessories. It seems so boring when I "say" it like that, but it's definitely a long way from where I started, when I would've stopped at the jeans or slacks and the shirt!

wearing now: menswear inspired
I'm not really huge on menswear, but sometimes I just get a bug in my butt to try something different. How are you supposed to know what works (or doesn't), until you try it right?

wearing now: nautical strips
This shirt is one of my favs. H&M occasionally has some real winners for me. This outfit proved to be very sleek, yet still very warm. I think I threw a yellow scarf around my neck occasionally because my office can be a wee bit chilly. I think I'm going to have to start every morning by calling maintenance to come check the temperature in my office and turn the AC down! I actually have a little portable space heater at my desk to warm my feet up :(
I usually have a little sweater that I keep at my desk. I call it my "office sweater." That sweater met with a horrible death when I moved. It was way pass time to get rid of that thing. It kept me warm, but it sure was ugly. I think I'm going to try to rely on layers until I can replace my "office sweater" with something a little more chic.

wearing now: flying the friendly skies
In my last post I mentioned that I went out of town recently. I had a one way ticket to meet *him* back in my "home"town. It felt soooo good to be back home. It was a bit of a stressful situation, complete with a car break down, missing an important dinner and me getting sick. Yeah. It was stressful. At least I looked nice!
In hindsight, it was probably a bad idea to wear these boots on the flight. It was a wee bit difficult to take them off to go through the scanner. I'm used to having to wait in line for people to wrangle their children, strollers and laptops and wasn't prepared to brisk through security like I did. Whoops!
I also wore this on the last day of my conference. I felt badly about wearing jeans when everyone else was in business casual or at least slacks, but I was only packing for a few days and didn't want to bring a pair of slacks that I wasn't going to wear again. These jeans I could wear multiple days. I stopped into my office to do some work before heading to the conference and was complimented by another staff member, so I couldn't have looked that bad!

Tata for now!

wearing now: "denim" slacks
These are some of my favorite pants. They fit really well and the color is phenomenal. They aren't really jeans and they aren't really slacks, they are kind of a combination of the two.
As soon as I edited this pics, those shoes went right into the trash! *That* is one of the reasons why I blog! I wouldn't done that had I not seen these pictures. I'm not someone who makes new purchases every week or every other week, but I still have to take stock of the condition of the items that I own. Maybe it's even more important for me to do so because I'm not constantly replacing items.

wearing now: sweater dresses
Last fall/winter I was obsessed with finding the perfect sweater dress! I never did find *the one* but I did walk away with a couple that are perfectly acceptible!
Wore this to work and to a celebratory lunch for a co-workers birthday. No one ever wears heels in my office, but I love these little booties. Never really felt comfortable enough to wear them on a regular basis, but I realized that I really can't be worried about what other people think of my shoe choices!
I'm always unsure of how to accessorize a cowl neck. I don't really *care* for them, so I don't have many and I never really give it any thought. Until I wake up in the morning and have to accessorize. Then I'm stuck looking in the mirror and digging through jewelry boxes. Finally, I gave up and decided on bangles.

wearing now: lace blazers and misfit clothing
If blogging has done one thing for me, it has certainly given me an idea of the kinds of clothing I love, the clothes I tolerate, and most importantly, those that just don't look good on me! It's time for me to do laundry, so I'm pretty much scraping the bottom of the clothing barrel right now. One of the items on the bottom of that barrel is a lace tank top that is totally NOT office appropriate. Not only isn't it office appropriate, but I also haven't worn it in years! "Why do I still own it?" you may ask? That question is probably even more relevant considering the fact that I donate clothing at least twice a year. Yet and still, I keep holding on to this top! You never know when you are going to need a sheer lacy top do you?!
This blazer was another one of my H&M finds. While I was scouring the rack for the white lacy blazer, I came across this hot little number and fell in LOVE! It is gray lace and has this cute little blow closure:
When buttoned, this blazer creates the illusion of a fabulous shape! I was a tiny bit worried that it would look stupid unbuttoned, but I think it may grow on me!
top: random lacy white tank cami: Old Navy pants: Gap blazer: H&M (similar here) shoes: Coach necklace Charlotte Russe
This out fit also reinforced the idea that it's a great idea to have plenty of basics and layering pieces around! I picked up a ton of camis at Old Navy last winter for between 2 and 5 bucks and they have been a lifesaver on more than one occasion! I don't know how I survived so long with out them...wait, I take that back, somehow I managed to get by with wifebeaters and strategically placed tube tops. Serious stuff. This blazer was another one of my H&M finds. While I was scouring the rack for the white lacy blazer, I came across this hot little number and fell in LOVE! wearing now: meeting attire
top: H&M blazer: H&M flower pin: H&M slacks: Express shoes: Coach necklace: Old Navy
I certainly don't work in the kind of office that requires suiting, but I *do* like to dress up a little on important meeting days, especially my first meeting. Gray + Black is such a classic combination, but I had to add a little something extra. Something a little girly. Enter the bright pink flower pin!
I also think the long strand of pearls helps to elongate me a little. I'll take all the help I can get!

wearing now: earthquake!!!
The giant (read 5.9) earthquake of 2011 definitely shook me up a little bit! I was driving back to my office from lunch when it happened. I felt my car swaying and though...wow...that wind is STRONG! Then, I noticed the car in front of me and the lights swaaaaying...and thought...surely there are no earthquakes in DC. Surely I stand corrected!!!
top: Polo Ralph Lauren cardigan: Old Navy slacks: Express shoes: Cole Haan necklace: old
By the time I got back to my office, someone had pulled the fire alarm and people were lining up outside of the building. I'm eternal grateful that I decided to wear something comfortable today!
